Student Success Article at IMPRINT

I set a goal of getting published in the Summer of 2019 and after thorough planning and collaboration with colleagues, I was published in IMPRINT @ UCF. This article is meant to give back to students who have struggled adjusting into college life like I did. By explaining my success as a student while navigating through hard situations I hope to motivate those who may be stuck inside unhealthy habits. This experience helped me learn what it means to translate my identity as a student into a tangible guide for people who may not feel confident enough to make a change in their lives, and I could not have done it without the collaboration of my peers. I felt proud when I was published by IMPRINT, but the most pride I felt came more from when my readers had reached out to me explaining how this writing impacted them and helped them feel less alone.

Act on Social Change: Why Do We Look Away?

I studied abroad in 2018 and lived in London for a semester at one of the focal points of Central London, Tottenham Court Road. During my time here, I was surprised to find so many similarities in social issues as we have in America, namely homelessness and income inequality. Curious of the perspectives of the people who have had everything taken away, I interviewed a homeless man that I often saw just a few blocks from my dorm. I was curious as to how he still got up in the morning and continued his struggle, and having a heart to heart with this man made me realize just how lucky I am, how much of life is left to chance, and how quickly everything can change. His perseverance to get better inspired me to get better too, and I was humbled by the opportunity I have as a communicator to share stories like this, and make social change happen.
